It's totally normal to be scared out of your mind and wondering if you are doing the right thing! You just have to trust that you've made the right decision for yourself. Judging from your post, you have been in the schools and know what it's like. I had been in the schools as a volunteer and teacher's assistant, but I was still questioning my decision to become a teacher and wondering if I made the right choice for myself. Student teaching can be a great experience. I went to a school that I had volunteered at, and I was placed with a teacher I already knew. I had an awesome experience. If you find a school/classroom that you really like, I'd request to be placed at that school. It's possible that that school could be your future place of employment...mine is! I student taught last fall and will start teaching there next week! My advice is to know that what you are feeling is normal. Talk to other people who are in your same position. Don't worry about student teaching quite yet. You cooperating teacher will be your mentor. They aren't going to throw you in a classroom and expect that you start teaching right away (most of the time anyways). Usually you start by observing for a couple weeks (which is really helpful), and then you slowly take over the day subject by subject. Good luck!
