It is great that you want to do a newsletter but have the kids write the articles or the news. I teach self contained MR and we do a weekly newsletter. The kids (6th-8th grade) really like to do it. We even interviewed people for the letter.
Have fun with it. You can showcase their papers just make sure everyone gets a chance to do the work. It is a great writing, reading excercise and the parents love it.
