Obviously, this is a very intelligent and thoughtful child. I was in a similar situation with a seventh grader, who unfortunately was sullen and angry about school requirements. I finally told him to look at school as his job. He has to produce a product and that product will be evaluated according to standards set be someone other than himself. Sometime we work at jobs that we don't particularlly enjoy. Hopefully, we can eventually move on to jobs that challenge and excite us. I don't know if it helped him understand, but he did change his attitude and it made life much easier!
