Hiring Grid and Seniority
By Michael

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi !

I just blooped into this by accident and read of the frustration with subs getting postings. I get the impression that there is little union support and an ill defined hiring protocol.

I'm a TOC in Northern BC, Canada,
and we have a very clear and transparent seniority based hiring system. TOC's get seniority days just like regular teachers and a short term job gets posted for all. The only exeptions we've found are recall rights of laid-off teachers on contract.

There is certainly no nepotism or favourtism allowed and our union is pretty strong on greiving perceived incidents.

Certified TOC's

have all the rights and responsibilities of classroom teachers and are represented on the union executive.

What I read here on this string is why teachers, and especially TOC's, need strong, united, union support.
