I give the Gentry Developmental Spelling Test (known as the "monster" test), I do a version of the 4-folded piece of paper that I got off some the internet somewhere--upper left: a tree, upper right: a house, lower left: a person, lower right: "I like my class." (they write). I have my kids write their ABC's upper and lower, and write numbers to 20. I also give a diagnostic test by MaGraw Hill and take a writing sample.
Whew...that's all the 1st week. Next week I will have them fill in a 100's chart and do a math facts test. I will also start 1-on-1 assessments for letter recognition, etc.
