I'm a new 5th grade teacher, too. I use "Give me five" with my two classes. I was hesitant to use it at first, but thought, I might as well give it a shot. It's worked pretty well. The kids' first day of school was Tuesday and they've really picked it up. You really have to practice it though. Hopefully it'll work all year.
