ABC Order
By RebeccaK

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach special education and have found that many students find numbers to be far less abstract than letters. I label the classroom alphabet (the one on the wall over the white board) with large circles, red for vowels
and blue for consonants. Then of course A = 1, B = 2, etc. We play "secret message" word games where they must crack the code (3 - 1 - 2 = CAB) and other games/activities. Students can then use the numbered alphabet as a reference during ABC order lessons or assignments.

Eventually most kids definitely get it once they realize the correlation between the letters and the numbers. Most

don't need the number reference for long.

There are some other little activites that can help too, just let me know if you're interested. =)
