Funny Story about Dress Codes
By kay

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a funny story about dress code will lighten "all-you-all's" day. I have been in different schools that had NO dress code to SUPER conservative. This story is about a school district that "required" suits, hose, pumps
or high heals (in Virginia in the 80's). Here goes:

We were required to stand in our doorway as students were dismissed by "cottages" (I worked in a juvenile prison). It was a LONG day and my "pumps" were just killing me and it was taking extremely long for admin "counting" the prisoners for each cottage. As I was standing in the doorway, I just decided to take my pumps off and

placed them beside me in the doorway. At that moment, some of my students were in the classroom who weren't dismissed yet started getting loud, so I turned around to address them. After settling them down, I turned around and my shoes were GONE! I was PANICKED!

The moment all students were gone, the secretary called me to tell me that the principal wanted to see me. Here I am with NO shoes! I had to walk in that office with no shoes on (he didn't seem to notice) and then he says "Do you know why I called you in here?" I immediately said, "My shoes". He had a funny look on his face, so I said "It won't happen again". It turned out that it was about something totally different, but I had to explain and show him my feet. He burst out laughing . It turned out that another teacher enlisted a student to steal my shoes as a joke, but had no idea that the principal would be calling me to the office. Thank goodness the principal had a sense of humor!
