word processing...they love it!
By Jessica

Clip to ScrapBook
During the last quarter of school, I started a new activity during our weekly computer lab.
I would pretype a sentence frame related to something in our classroom/learning. Sometime during the day I would ask each student
to fill in the blank--but I would write it.

For. example. after reading A House for Hermit Crab, maybe it could be...
"I have a hermit crab named _________. His shell has ______________________."

or
When I grow up, I want to be a _________________.

During computer lab, each student received their slip of paper with the filled in sentence frame. Usually, this was 1-2 sentences.
The

kids loved it! By the end of the 20 min. lab, most of them had typed it, and it really made them pay attention to punctuation and learn something about the computer.
When they were done, they would illustrate the sentence on the bottom of the printed page.
The kids felt very successful that they had typed this.
