I personally think that sending home a photocopy of the weeks homework for first graders is more effective than copying homework off of the board and doesn't take away from valuable teaching time. If it takes ten minutes for the children to copy the work off of the board, that is definately too long and certainly takes away from the time that they could be learning or engaging in hands on activities.
