pencils
By Kelly

Clip to ScrapBook
Pencils are the only communial supply I have in my room. I found this was the only to get them to stop playing silly games with them. They would go out of their way to break their pencil to get to waste time sharpening
it. I have a pencil jar. Sharp ones face up and need to be sharpened face down. They get the fisrt pencil they touch. No one sharpened but me or an assigned student. There is no need to sharpen throughout the day though because there is more then enough in the jar for everyone. Then you only need to have the one's facing down sharpened.
I also have a rule that anyone caught destroying
a pencil (breaking the tip off on purpose to get a new one) writes in crayon for the rest of the day. I have a particularly distructive group coming in who last year found new ways to break pencils and other school supplies. So I am watchful!
