    It does get easier

The first few days can be encouraging. It does take awhile for them to become a class and understand procedures. I learned a trick from a former student teacher. When I need there attention, I use a music box as a signal. I use a music box that turns on and off when the lid is opened or closed. When they hear the music, they are to stop and look at me. It is a fun signal and they don't have to be looking at me to know when I need their attention. We do practice it often at the beginning of the year. My other trick is to change my voice at times to get their attention. If I am speaking and someone isn't paying attention, I often lower or raise the pitch, not the volume. Or I may whisper. They look to find out what is going on.

    Good luck!
