Everyone does homework differently. This is what I do. My class has homework Monday though Thursday. It is due on the next day. The homework is very similiar each night so my students know what is expected of them. I give them one sheet front and back. It isn't alot of homework and I can generally correct it first thing while they are doing their morning work and journals.

Monday: Spelling worksheet, math worksheet, read an assigned short story and complete the reading worksheet.

Tuesday: 5 sentences, math worksheet, read an assigned short story and complete the reading worksheet

Wednesday: ABC Order math worksheet, read an assigned short story and complete the reading worksheet

Thursday: Write spelling words3x, math worksheet, read an assigned short story and complete the reading worksheet

The reading worksheet which is on the same page as the 1/2 page math worksheet always has 3 short questions to be answered. 1) What is the title of the book? 2) Who is the author/illustrator?

3)This one vaires depending on the night
Monday- Who are the main characters?
Tuesday- What is the main idea of the story?
Wednesday- What is the problem in the story?
Thursday- Did you like or dislike the story?Explain why with specific examples.

This has worked for me for years now. The parents tell me that the assigned story is the first thing that their chlidren want to do at homework time.
Good luck with your homework decision and finding your own style that will work best for you and your class.
