One thing that I have learned is that you can't just have a "class" reward system.. You must also have some kind of individual reward system. I've noticed that fourth grade students are very eager to help out in the classroom.. One thing that I've done in my class is to award tickets for "being caught" doing something good. Anytime I need something done in the class like passing out papers, cleaning up my library, or if I need a messenger for the office, I pull the ticket out of this box. The more tickets you have, the better the chance for you to help!! I also have times when I'll pull out tickets to go to the treasure box...filled with little knick-knacks.. I usually get the toys from the dollar store. I also focus on "positive" behavior in my class. I always say things like, "wow, Maria, I can't beleive how quickly you got ready to listen for directions, that's awesome." Usually everyone around Maria starts to get ready..I hope this helps!!!
