I just got hired in Edmonton By MrsNess

I just got hired in Edmonton. I can tell you that the application process was gruelling. Edmonton Public Schools website www.epsb.ca has an application form for you to fill out. You need to write a very strong cover letter| and resume. You also need to write a philosophical statement and an autobiographical statement. It's definitely a good idea to have a portfolio (mine helped alot in my interview). I also made an online version of my portfolio for reference after I left their office and to show that I was technosavvy. When you get an interview, they will ask you questions about what your classroom |
| would look like if someone were to peek their head into the room. What kind your beliefs are about classroom management. What kind of rules you would have for your class and how you would develop those rules. Why you decided to become a teacher. How you plan to keep yourself current in your field. How you plan for assessment of learning and assessment for learning. How you would plan and organize your lessons, unit and yearly plans. That kind of thing. If you know what you believe and why you do the things you do, you'll be all right.I wish you lots of luck in your screening interview. I know that EPSB just hired 185 new teachers (I'm one) because the government forked out $$ to reduce class sizes. I don't know where I'm going to be teaching yet nor do I kow what grade but I'm thrilled to have found a job. Keep looking and plugging along. It will come. Another good website to try is www.educationcanada.com . If you are interested in the Edmonton area, check out the Black Gold School district (that district includes Leduc and Beaumont which are very close to Edmonton), St. Albert Protestant (through their site you can get onto instant teacher and post your resume and details on-line) and Elk Island (which is Sherwood Park). Good luck to you!
