I always have soft classical music on in the background.

My kids love to sing! I do not care for kid-songs so I've taught them a few Beatles songs, Put A Little Love in Your Heart, Lean on Me, and a few other pop songs that are appropriate. The kids are kind of insulted with kid-songs (such as She'll be Coming Round the Mountain). At Valentine's Day I taught them LOVE by Nat King Cole. The kids just love to sing appropriate adult songs.
