pen pals
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, Abby. What grade do you teach? I am a 3rd year teacher (I teach first grade) and would like to start pen pals with my class sometime this year. We are in Casa Grande, AZ, about an hour south of Phoenix. It's a smallish
town in the middle of the desert, so it would definitely be different from your setting! Let me know. You can either email me or post a reply.

As far as attendance I am assuming your school does not have a system, but I'll share my school's system;it's probably something you would be able to replicate. We have big index cards (5"x7" sounds right) with each child's name on his or her

own card. We have the whole year on our cards. I don't have one in front of me so I'm going off memory here, but there are 6 rows of thirty days--only the school days, no weekends or holidays. On each day we mark the student's attendance. If the child is there, we leave it blank. If the child is tardy we mark the day with a T and write the reason on the back. If the child is there for a half day we make a slash through the day, and if the child is absent we mark the day with an A. This is something you could probably create on your computer. I hope this made sense and offers you some help. If you would like more explanation, let me know. Good luck!
Debbie
