First day activity

I love all the other ideas! I know this is a worksheet, but my class has liked it the past couple years. What I have done is I make a word search with all the student's names and put it on their desks with a new sharpened pencil. I have them complete the word search and the first one done gets a small prize. It helps them settle down and relieves some of their nerves. Then, after the puzzle, we play a game to connect names to faces. You can go to puzzlemaker.com to make and print your own word search for free.
