I like to read either I Don't Want to Go to School about a boy who is worried about going to school on the first day or Nobody's Mother Is in Second Grade by Robin Pulver. It's out of print but you should be able to get it in a library. After that, we read Junie B. Jones books. They are chapter books that are a lot of fun to read out loud!
