calendar
By Kathy P.

Clip to ScrapBook
This is one of my student's jobs for the week. The "calendar" person is to write the date 2 ways on the chalkboard (ex: May 2, 2004 and 5-2-04). This stays on the board for the students to refer to when they head their
papers. They also velcro what day it is, what day it will be tomorrow, and what the weather is.

At the 1st of the month, I take the calendar apart and the class puts it back together. I give everyone a date or two. I ask the person who has the 1st to put theirs on the calendar and I ask how they know where to put it. I then randomly ask each person to put their number on the calendar

(I don't call them in sequence). It's good to see the strategies they use to put the date on the calendar. Do they count on from the 1st or do they use another date on the calendar and count on? Sometimes I ask for the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, etc. to put them on first (counting by 5's) or count by 2's. They enjoy it.
