(My lips are zipped)

Sing to The Farmer in the Dell. "My lips are zipped" doesn't fit,
I just add it in, staying on the same pitch for the whole phrase. I sing it slowly, checking to see that they have followed the directions for each phrase.
As to the independant work -- That is a tough one. I don't expect success with that until 3rd Grade!!!! :o) Actually, 'quiet' is something you may not hear much of all year. Don't be discouraged. It's kindergarten. And there

are lots of boys. Been there - done that!!

Whispering, cause some may not agree with this---------- When I asked the kids to sit at their table home places, I would gently and quietly shake my bag of M&Ms, and walk around the room. As soon as one table group quieted down, I would give everyone at that table an M&M. Everybody quiets down pretty fast after that. Often, I only pass M&Ms to the first table. I can tell if the whole class 'needs' the reinforcement. Sometimes, if they get noisey again, I have to ask them to cough them up!!! Just kidding.

I hope you are smiling. I don't know why I'm feeling kind of silly this morning. Obviously, I haven't started school yet!!!

Good luck. Look for times to be joyful. Find some good music. Do lots of moving. Be joyful and have fun.
