Marble Jar

I used a marble in my first grade room for two years and will use it this year with my fourth graders. I have a big jar, with about 800 marbles. At open house I have the kids estimate how many marbles are in the jar and on the first day we counted them. The jar works well for me. I give 20 marbles for a class compliment from another staff member of guest, 5-10 when I catch one or all of them doing something good, etc.I also take marbles away for inappropriate behavior. A full jar means they choose a treat (with my maintaining veto power). We have had ice cream parties, popcorn and a movie, and a game Friday. My first year the kids filled the jar three times!
