My class marble jar
By Tracy

Clip to ScrapBook
I also use a marble jar in my class. Two things I have done in the class: 1) I place markers on the jar. For example I divide the jar into 4 equal parts and draw a line using a permanent marker. As the jar fills up to
each line, different rewards are given. Some rewards for the first quarter mark may include no homework for the weekend . The next line (halfway) may include 20 minutes of extra recess. The 3/4 line might be movie and popcorn. And all the way to the top may include a picnic lunch (we are very close to a park).

Another idea I used was to assign different marble amounts for various

tasks. For example, 2 marbles for everyone completing their homework, 4 marbles for walking through the halls quietly, etc.

The system I used depended on the class and the task I was trying to achieve. Some classes enter the school year more mature than others and are not so much in need of instant gratification.

Hope this helps.
