Work board By Robin

In my class, we call it a job board. I also use it during reading time. The first job is for students to complete their lit. group assignments, and then I list other assignments I want done. You could use a designated spot on the chalk board, a white board or even laminate a piece of chart paper and make it erasable. Before we start to work, I do a "status of the class" to ensure each person knows what they need to do. I also have a sign-out board for the bathroom during this time so my literature group discussions are not interrupted. It takes some modeling during the first weeks you use it, but it really builds independence and avoids the "What do I do now?" question. Hope this helps.
