Counselor Time=extra planning By Kay
|
| Last year our counselor requested we leave the classroom during her monthly visit. We were not allowed to remain in the room for any reason. Quite frankly I dont remember anyone complaining about it either. We loved it. It gave us an extra 45 min. of down time to grade papers, plan, or just chill for awhile in the teachers lounge. I would assume you can make the decision about how you want to present your lessons. OUr counselor was extremely nice about it all - she simply said she wanted to discuss some important topics with the students that needed to be done privately in order to build a relationship of trust and respect with them so that they can see her as not just a vistor to their classroom but also as a teacher. As to some of your comments - if you dont feel comfortable asking them to leave the room, definately do not hesitate to nip those interruptions in the bud right now. Make it clear the teachers are NEVER to interupt you or the students during your visit. Good luck
