So now you know....

Clip to ScrapBook
in the world of teaching it is WHO you know, not what you know! Jobs are scarce, especially in the midwest, and you may have to expand your boundaries. Perhaps you should play the game, be a good sport, and do the sub thing
for a year. Do it well and let them see what an asset you would be. However, if the same thing happens again next year, you need to have a heart to heart with the principal. Ask him/her to be candid and blunt as to why you were not offered a position. Some principals get a good sub, competent and always available, and then take advantage of that for years. Do not let it happen to you.
However, some people just do not interview well regardless of their qualifications.(Not necessarily you) Ask for help if that was the case. Sometimes there are rumors or untruths that get in the way and a person needs the facts so that they can set the record straight. Be sure to read the professional literature and keep up on trends and buzz words. Princiapls and other higher-ups who haven't been in the classroom for a long time like to hear the lingo. Good Luck!
