Just saw your message and congrats. I am returning to teaching after retiring from my job of 15 years and decided to sub teach this year to get back into the feel of things. I had subbed before and my 1st sub job involved subbing for a teacher who kept his lesson plans in his head. He left me NOTHING!! Sometimes the kids will help with telling you what they're on; you can easily pick out the b.s. from the actual facts. I found out that if you do not try to be a dictator it works best with the kids. Also, remind them that the lesson they are to do will have to be done anyway either that day with you or when the regular teacher returns,and if the second option happens the regular teacher will not be happy with them.
