returning to subbing
By Dave

Clip to ScrapBook
I am also returning to teaching and subbing. One thing that I used several years ago in a gigh school with large classes was to stand at the door until the bell rang and when it rang walk up to the board and start writing
as follows 1) my name 2) 0 3) amuse me 4)see the principal. I would then go on with telling them the assignment for the day and the last one would be "that's what the doctor said". By the time I was done you could have heard a pin drop. I would explain that #1 was`of course my name, and that #2 is what would faze me, as all subs are open targets. #3 would be what trying to faze me would
do to me, #4would be what doing #3 too much would get them. I would go on to explain what the assignment was and if they had any questions, at which point the last statement came up. I would tell them that it was the answer to their question of "is he out of his mind?". I found that it would relax everybody and we got along great most of the time.
