my reasons for subbing
By Dave

Clip to ScrapBook
I spent the last 15 years as an OTR driver with 10 of those years as a driver instructor. Before that,I had been a teacher and sub teacher for several years. When I was forced to retire this past winter, I decided to return
to teaching as I had kept my certification current. I could have returned cold turkey, but decided that after several years away, I needed to get back in slowly. I decided to substitute teach this coming year for the experience and to get some contacts.
Substitute teaching is in my opinion a good way to experience several different schools and subject matters, as before I had
subbed in a variety of areas. A good sub teacher can step in for the regular teacher and the students not miss any material, and it makes the regular teacher's job easier as they will not have to make up lost time when they were gone.
Just before school ended this past May I was asked to sub in a school which had been my last school I was`at years ago before I took up driving. A regular teacher was there whom I regonized and he recognized me as being there before. That was gratifying to be remembered after all those years away.
I will be subbing this year and I am looking forward to it. After dealing with truck drivers for 15 years, these kids should be a breeze.
