We could be twins!
By Tracey

Clip to ScrapBook
You have practically described my exact teaching situation, down to the number of years teaching and experience with the grade! I've actually already begun our Flat Stanley Project, although I teach at a year-round school,
so we're halfway through the first marking period already.

At any rate, to find addresses, I just went to the http://www.flatstanleyproject.com (the website address is in the back of newer versions of the Flat Stanley book) and registered to participate. Then I clicked on "list of participants" and searched for classes throughout the

U.S. (although you can choose other countries as well). The search will give you email addresses, mailing addresses, and grades taught for any teachers in the searched area, and I just emailed a BUNCH of people and started making arrangements for when I had available hosts.

I'm only sending one student to each location, and I plan to continue the project throughout the year. We've already sent out two, and will send I think three more next week and already have some "booked" through January! Although this is my first time participating in the project, I think that it's already been wonderful, and my kids are excited about it too! We made our "Stanleys" as glyphs, and we're using the locations we visit to teach geography and landforms, and when we host other flat friends, we'll work on our writing! We even have arranged to send one to our city mayor when we're studying government!

I don't know where you teach, but if we don't already have plans to visit your state, I'd love to swap with you. I teach in Monroe, NC (near Charlotte), and we already have all my students booked through mid-late October, but anytime after that would be a good time for us to send. Of course, if you want to send yours earlier and we could return it with a flat friend from our class, that would work out too. Get in touch with me, and we'll figure something out. Also, I've gotten a fairly extensive list of contacts willing to participate, and they're all listed on the FSP website, so it wouldn't be a big deal at all for me to share those email addresses to see if they can swap with you too!

Good luck with the project!
