Clip to ScrapBook
hi there, hope this isn't too late. I am teaching 4th grade this year but have had 5th for the previous 3. The one book I have done with both grades, and a 6th one year, is "The Iron Man" by Ted Hughes. This is one my boys
in particular have enjoyed as it has an iron giant, a space-bat-angel-dragon and a contest between the two. The movie "The Iron Giant" was based upon the book. I usually do a comparison of the two.
Other novels we have done are:
"Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"- Judy Blume
'Superfudge" - Judy Blume
"Charlotte's Web" - E.B. White.
"The Paw Thing" - Paul Jennings
"Rowan
of Rin" - Emily Rodda
The last two are very popular authors and books here in Australia. My class are very interested in this book and many have borrowed it or the sequels, 5 in all, from either the school or local library. These may be hard to find in the States but if you were after something a little different, my class can vouch for them. I know I have found some great books from this site, Holes being one of them, which I have now enthused most of the staff, & students, into reading.
