If you got a carpet store, they might have those huge rolls of carpet. See if you can have them trim it down to fit a portion of your room. Then the students can sit there. They might also have little samples that are doormat size that you might be able to buy. Other stores like Menards might have some big area rugs for a portion of the room, but I'm not quite sure how much they cost.
