Center Activities
By Emily

Clip to ScrapBook
I always have an art center that allows the kids to practice fine motor skills. They also are allowed to chat and help each other. I have done beaded creatures, paintings of various types, dioramas, etc depending on what
literature story or theme I am on. The kids love this.

I also have a math center that is teacher monitored and is a review of math taught the previous week and then challenges for those that complete the work. This is also a kid favorite. My Title I math person does this so it is a learning experience for all.

I fortunately have a nice set of 5 computers and so I create various webquests

or activities that follow my theme. http://www.southbridge.k12.ma.us/CharltonSt/MantineoWebpage/mantin.htm
This is always updated.
I also have Alphasmarts so the students practice writing skills and typing at the same time. Alphasmarts are portable keyboards that I can connect to the computers to print out what was written.
The last center would be a booklet, magnetics or something that the students also complete independantly as my time is spent divided between the last 4 unmonitored centers. Email me for specifics if you'd like and I would be more than happy to help. I have quite a few independant types of centers that take time to complete and little monitoring or correcting on my part.
