I also teach 1st grade. When I first read your plan, my first thought was wow, I'd hate to have to do all that work. Youhave some great ideas but they are gonna take time for you to do everyday. I like things
easy for me. My behavior plan is 1st time- warning. 2nd time - name on board. 3rd time- no recess and a note home. 4th time-or a major offense - straight to office. I rarely have any discipline problems. When I do I make a BIG deal out of it. My feelings are these kids are big enough to know the rules and they need to follow them. I do however REWARD behavior all the time.

I have a marble jar. Any compliment gets a handful of marbles - when full we have a party. I also give best listener, walker, best friend, math wiz, good reader, and anything else I can think of as rewards. I give out certificates. I also give no homework passes. - BIG HIT. If I notice a kid who has really worked hard all day- I give a no homework pass. These are with the exception of spelling. THey have to do spelling homework. BUT, I give them time in class to work on it. I work in a title 1 school. I have homeless kids and those with parents in jail or rehab. Some kids have wonderful families. I give them my expectations at the beginning of the year and am very blessed that I have few problems. I worked in special ed. in an alternative high school. I loved my students there. When the district did away with the school I went to elementary regular ed. I think that working with those kids helped me so much. They taught me so many things. I am so happy when I see them. My advice to you is to don't do anything real complicated. Remember that whatever you begin at the first you need to carry through all year. Some things can become a real drag and our lives are so hectic. Good luck to you. You sound like a wonderful teacher who wants what is best for the kids.
