Pension=no SS
By Lori

Clip to ScrapBook
This information actually came frm the social security office. My sister - who has always worked a second job that paid into social security - applied for SS and was told that information. Although she qualified with her
40 quarters of work, and was entitled to over $650 per month in social security, she only gets a check for less than $50, after medicare deduction is taken out. They called it "double dipping". However, if I had continued working at the SS job, I would have received a pension from International Harvester AND a full SS check. It makes no sense that teachers are penalized for teaching!!

I

do not have the bill # right off hand, but the National Education Association should have it. Additionally, I contacted AARP, which has a huge, very powerful lobby in Washington, regarding this matter. AARP is actively encouraging people to go into teaching as a second career. They said repeal of the bill is "not a priority to the members of AARP".

Educators must band together, and use the power we have available in order to fight this unfair law. If we worked and contributed to social security, surely we are entitled to it!
