    Not too late

When my sister was trying to get a job a few years ago, she got hired for a teaching position at 2:30 the day before students arrived. So, no, I wouldn't say it's too late.
I would go ahead and sign up to be on the sub list. It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and put your name on that list.
Also, did you send your resumes to the actual schools or just their administration building? When I was looking for a job in a new state, I sent mine directly to each and every school in the districts where I was applying in addition to the administration offices. That might help if an opening becomes available at the last minute. Then you're fresh on their minds.
Also, if you decide to sub, I suggest making business cards and leaving them on the teacher's desk after you've subbed. I was a December graduate and subbed that spring. I left behind business cards and I heard that teachers were impressed. For me, short term subbing jobs led to a long term subbing job later that spring which then lead to a teaching job the following year. Subbing is a good way to get your foot in the door.
    Good luck!
