What I love about 2nd grade!

Well in my opinion 2nd grade is the BEST!!! I may be a little biased because that's all I've ever taught, but that's ok eh?? I love teaching second grade because I think second graders are just at a point where
they are learning to become a little more independent. In K and 1 they are a bit more "needy", because they are just learning the ropes. Due to the great job the K and 1 teachers do though they reach me beginning to gain their own independence. Granted, they need constant modelling and guidance, but it's certainly not as much as other lower grades. I also love second because they are

still very respectful. Not that above second grade they become terrors, but from my experience with third grade and up they get a bit more mouthy. Oh, I've taught some rude second graders, don't get me wrong but for the most part they are sweet, loving, and really look up to you. Another plus in my opinion, and this may be different in your state I'm not sure, but teaching second grade you avoid all the state testing that seems to make the upper grade teachers want to pull their hair out!!! So, just a few things to think about as you start your year off in this wonderful grade. I wish you TONS of luck!
