We have been using the Scott Foresman for 3 years now and I'm learning to like it. We have flexibility with it though. I only do the stories from the basal on Monday and Tuesday, and then I pull the skill for the week into the novel we are reading. I do the Selection test on Thursday each week,but I don't do the all the worksheets, grammar, and spelling. Some of the worksheets are great and can be adapted, but some are very difficult for the children. As far as the spelling goes, our district focuses on high frequency words so I come up with my own list each week. For grammar, I use their writing so I don't really need SF. Good luck! I really hated that book the first year because I used novels before it came along, but it's growing on me, and I don't mind it as much now. I hope you have the flexibility we do, and that way it won't be so bad.
