My favorite novel for sixth is "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin. It is an excellent mystery and my sixth graders really get into it. Some other novels I use include "Island of the Blue Dolphins", "Where the Red Fern Grows", "Witch of Blackbird Pond", "Walk Two Moons", and for a challenge at the end of the year, we read "Treasure Island". These have all been big hits with my sixth graders in the past. Good luck!
