I use the total-points system. Here's what I do. For everything the score is what of how many points possible. So if something was worth 20 points and the student missed one, he or she would get 19/20 as a grade. I record that. At the end of the grading period, I find out the total number of points possible. Then I add the total number of points that the student earned. That is put as a fraction and I find a percent. Let's say the total number of points on all of work (tests, quizzes, homework, projects, etc.) was 612. We'll say the student received 531. Then that is put as a fraction: 531/612. Then I find the percent. The percent is rounded to an 87%.
