I also have a question posted and they reply with yes/no answers. Then they get their supply box from their cubby and I have them color/draw/write. After announcements we do calendar math, story time, shared writing, etc.
depending on the class I have Dear time- read silently until announcements are over. I also check their homework and behavior calendar. I keep them busy so I can talk to parents or students individually.
