What are we talking about!!

Clip to ScrapBook
I have no idea if you "no-rewarders" have kids, but I would love to be a fly on the wall when your kid gets straight A's or is named captain of the soccer team......or whatever it is.

I sent my kids to Montessori school
when they were younger. Their "philosophy" was to never say "oh I love how you..." or "I am so proud of you...." because they wanted the kids to do things for themselves. Instead of the previous, they would say...."Timmy, why do YOU like the work you did?" or "Wow, that was an interesting combination of colors, why did you pick thoses?"

...and do you know what my kids would say when they

got home?????

"Mommy, do you like my picture?"

No matter what you try to do, kids thrive on praise. If that is wrong, then I am a cruddy parent I guess. The day I stop giving out verbal praise or rewards to my kids is the day I sign the "I am a cruddy parent" agreement. That goes the same for the kids I teach.

There is a huge difference between rewards and bribes.
