Service-Oriented Ideas
By jasm

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there. Don't forget community service-type activities; raising money or supplies for local animal shelters or zoos (you can even 'adopt' an animal), homeless organizations, etc... You can also, in some areas, clean a local
park or similar area, but gloves are a must and close supervision is needed (there are some unsavory items out there). I did this with a sixth grade group, and they enjoyed it. I've also gone with a group of special ed. seventh graders to a nursing home. You can also pair big kids with little kids for reading and other activities, which are usually beneficial to both groups. Within
the school, you could decorate hallways with funny themes, or wrap gifts for underprivileged children (unless, of course, those are your students), or paint a mural together (you can even use their handprints).

I hope these ideas are helpful, or at least get you thinking.....
