Service-Oriented Ideas By jasm

Hi there. Don't forget community service-type activities; raising money or supplies for local animal shelters or zoos (you can even 'adopt' an animal), homeless organizations, etc... You can also, in some areas, clean a local| park or similar area, but gloves are a must and close supervision is needed (there are some unsavory items out there). I did this with a sixth grade group, and they enjoyed it. I've also gone with a group of special ed. seventh graders to a nursing home. You can also pair big kids with little kids for reading and other activities, which are usually beneficial to both groups. Within | | the school, you could decorate hallways with funny themes, or wrap gifts for underprivileged children (unless, of course, those are your students), or paint a mural together (you can even use their handprints). I hope these ideas are helpful, or at least get you thinking.....
