Warm up or cool down activity?
By Lynn

Clip to ScrapBook
After learning the names and locations of the continents, perhaps you can have them sit on their desks and toss the globe around. When a child catches the ball whatever country and continent their right thumb is on (or whatever
finger you choose) aloud they say the continent and the country. Having classmates hear names of other countries on the continents gives them a sense of what other countries are out there. Geographically speaking, I'd think this activity is more for country recognition then for memorization recall.

Or another idea is toss the ball. Students 1 and 2 name the countries and the continent

they are on. Student 3 then has to find the countries that were named by the previous 2. Then the rotation continues.

Pass the globe around and have the children start with "a" and look for a country named with an "a". Child 1 says "Argentina on South America", Child 2 "Belgium in Europe", Child 3 "Chile on South America", Child 4 says "Denmark in Europe", Child 5 "Ethopia on South America" etc. Not sure if there's a different country that begins with every letter in the alphabet though!

Just some ides. Good luck!!
