A good and effective punishment assignment or homework would be eg: writing question & answers 5 times each or extra maths worksheets etc.. You should gauge your class first to understand what children despise most and accordingly work on it. And if they don't complete it at home make them sit during lunch hour in the class and complete it but let them leave in last 10 to 15 minutes because a good teacher is harsh and warm.
