class pet
By Roberta Saulnier

Clip to ScrapBook
I have always used a stuufed animal of some sort as a class pet. One year it was a small white duck, another year a puffin alligator--very small--this year a frog or a moose. I put it in a plastic box of some sort that
the children can carry home with them. They always write the most incredible stories. My directions are that they must carry the pet with them until they go to bed and describe all their activities. After the first visit home the stories begin to take on an imaginary sort of day with lots of great writing ideas. The best part is watching what they do to the house. One year a class made
a living room out of it, complete with furniture, TV with a roof antenna, and they started dressing the animal and giving her accessories and toys. I've always enjoyed the part of the day when they read to the class. Hope this helps you.
