Subbing
By Amanda K.

Clip to ScrapBook
Someone posted that subbing was a big indicator for them. I absolutely agree. I think it's difficult to know what you like until you have the opportunity to really get in there. When I started subbing, I was sure I wanted
to be a high school teacher. Well, after a few weeks, I knew that my heart was in first grade. Not that I didn't like high school... I really did, but first grade was just a very good fit for me.

Don't worry about being able to have time for everything with the little ones. I used to worry about that, too. In fact, when I was subbing, I hated to go from a high school classroom

one day to a K or 1 classroom the next day. The difference was incredible. I was so wiped out by the little ones because they are so demanding of your time. However, I got so used to it when I finally got a first grade teaching job. I don't even notice it any more. If you really like that age group, you learn how to deal with it.
