Loving 6th Grade!
By Karline

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been teaching 6th grade for 9 years and I love it! Yes, 6th graders have their challenging moments, but all grade levels do! I always thought that I would want to teach the little ones--after a great primary student
teaching experience and a BAD upper elementary experience--but then I entered the "real world" and realized that I wouldn't have much of a choice--I just needed to find a teaching job! When I was called to interview for a middle school position, I was a bit reluctant, but I went for it and am very happy! Many districts in my area (I am from NJ) hire for "elementary positions"--meaning
that after you are hired, they place you somewhere K-6 depending upon need. You are not given a whole lot of choice.
My suggestion--follow your heart, as others have said--AND try to get experience in EVERY grade level while you are still in college--and later through subbing. This will help you choose your favorite age group and provide you with a resume that administrators will jump on!
Good luck!
