stressful
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
I've have to say that every grade level has its own stress points. I even taught college and it has its, too! I really loved teaching 5th and 8th graders - they can do so many independent activities. They're just kids
in bigger bodies. Yes, some of them get attitudes, but if you show respect to them, they show it back and keep their attitudes to themselves (or to their parents!). I'm moving down to 3rd grade this year, so I'll be able to answer your question better in a few months! amplt;img src="http://www.proteacher.net/dcforum/Images/happy.gif"ampgt;
It really depends on the group of kids you have, as much as the grade level. I had a rough group of 5th graders one year, then a wonderful group the next. Same age, but high stress the first year.

Keep volunteering - I never knew I'd like older kids until I was in the classroom with them. Also, you normally don't get to pick what grade level you teach - you have to take whatever opening there is, so you may not have a choice. There's definitely something special and unique about every grade. amplt;img src="http://www.proteacher.net/dcforum/Images/happy.gif"ampgt;
