First, go to this web site & read this article. It explains the up & down cycles of your first year teaching. I have been teaching for 3 years & I still feel these sycles. Read this article & know that you're not alone;
many veteran teachers have this same cycle.
For your room:
* get your desk area arranged; make it cozy for yourself, get your desk materials organized in the drawers,etc.
* assign & label the cubbies, lockers, whatever you'll be using, so that the children will feel like they have a place in your room that is theirs
* go through your toys and clean them as best you can in
time allowed (lysol wipes are good for this) & toss out the ones that are broken; then decide which ones you'll put out. You don't want to put out all of your toys, save some to be rotated in while others are rotated out. It'll keep your toy selection from getting boring.
* do you have family that can help you get things done? I had my mom washing toys, my son hanging bulletin board paper & my daughter putting up window decorations. We brought a picnic lunch, lots of upbeat music, we were having so much fun, other teachers dropped in on "the party" to see what was going on. Lots of new teachers bring in hubby's, boyfriends, parents or friends to help set up. Promise them lunch or dinner as a reward!
